PGZ Stocznia Wojenna and Babcock International have partnered to launch a new international apprentice and trainee exchange program. The program aims to develop international cooperation based on the so-called “Babcock Skills Academy.”

As part of the pilot of the program, two apprentices – Brandon, a pipefitter, and Ryan, a designer – from Babcock visited the PGZ Stocznia Wojenna. They worked in different teams and had the opportunity to see how their Polish colleagues work. Jakub and Damian showed them what a day looks like for the Polish students of the technical school of the Center for Vocational and Continuing Education (CKZiU). The Brits also visited the Naval Museum and the science center.

Next, the visit of Jakub and Damian, future hull fitters from Poland, to the Rosyth plant was to observe the various work teams and the work on the construction of Type 31 frigates for the British Navy, a twin project to the Polish #Miecznik. During this stay, they had the opportunity to observe the simultaneous construction of two Arrowhead frigates in a modern hall. In addition, they visited the Scottish university Fife College and toured Edinburgh.

The program participants had the opportunity to gain new work experience and learn about the work culture at both companies. The full version of the program will be launched in the summer of 2024.

Phil Craig, managing director of international shipbuilding at Babcock International, said: “The collaboration between Babcock and PGZ SW is mutually beneficial. This unique experience offers Babcock trainees the opportunity to work in an international environment and build acquaintances and relationships abroad.”

Pawel Lulewicz, CEO of PGZ SW said: “The exchange program with Babcock provides an opportunity to showcase PGZ SW as an attractive and forward-looking workplace providing professional development in a dynamic, international environment.”

The exchange program for apprentices and interns is another step in the development of cooperation between Babcock and PGZ SW. The companies are already cooperating on the MIECZNIK frigate program for the Polish Navy.
