PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, together with its partners, handed over the ORP Mamry minesweeper to the Polish Navy today, 10 days ahead of schedule. This is the third vessel to be repaired by a consortium consisting of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and two shipbuilding companies: Stocznia Remontowa Nauta and PGZ Stocznia Wojenna.
The Project 207 base minesweepers are magnetic field limited vessels designed to detect and neutralize mine threats in Polish maritime areas and shipping lanes. They are an important element of the mine defense system, ensuring the safety of communication routes and the protection of subsea infrastructure.
The contract for the repair of three base minesweepers – ORP Necko and ORP Nakło (both project 207P) and ORP Mamry (project 207M) was signed by the Command of the Naval Port of Świnoujście in June 2022. All units were delivered to the Polish Navy ahead of the contract deadline.
“The timely and even accelerated delivery of another modernized vessel confirms the growing competence and efficiency of our shipyard. The implementation of this type of project is crucial for maintaining the operational capabilities of the Polish Navy in the transition period before the new vessels built as part of the Miecznik and Ratownik programs enter service,” emphasizes Marcin Ryngwelski, President of the Management Board of PGZ Stocznia Wojenna.
“In the language of seafarers, by staying on course and at speed at all times, and above all thanks to hard work, we are ahead of schedule. ORP Mamry, after ORP Nakło and ORP Necko, is the third vessel that the shipyards belonging to the PGZ Capital Group are delivering to the Polish Navy ahead of schedule. The implementation of this project is a good sign for the future and proof that together we can do more, maintaining the course and speed for the sake of the state’s security,” said Przemysław Romaszkiewicz, Director of the Modernization and Repair Projects Office at PGZ S.A.
The scope of work included a thorough overhaul, typical for major and dock repairs, with particular emphasis on remotization – a complete replacement of the main and auxiliary engine room equipment. Modern MTU engines, new ZF Friedrischafen gearboxes and Geislinger composite couplings were installed. Power generators were also replaced with Poweras equipment.
The modernization also included the replacement of outdated navigation and communication systems and maintenance of the ship’s hull and superstructure.
The PGZ consortium of companies confirms its readiness to continue the work of replacing the Soviet-era propulsion units on the ships of the Polish Navy, using the experience gained, the supply chains established and the relationships built with subcontractors.
