On Monday, December 2, at the AMW Academic Sports Center, together with basketball players from the AMW Arka Gdynia premier league team, we organized the “Basketball St. Nicholas Day” for students of primary schools in Gdynia.
The ceremonial opening was attended by, among others, Member of the Board of PGZ Stocznia Wojenna Beata Koniarska, Rear Admiral Prof. Dr. Hab. Tomasz Szubrycht and Gdynia Councilor Teresa Bysewska.
“PGZ Stocznia Wojenna consistently supports Pomeranian sports. It is worth emphasizing that we do not focus solely on professional teams, but – just like here – we also support young talents. St. Nicholas Day is also an opportunity for us to introduce our Shipyard to the youth. I hope that among today’s young athletes there will be future champions – whether on the basketball court or in our shipyard, building modern units for the Polish Navy.” – Beata Koniarska.
The invited guests also included representatives of the AMW Arka Gdynia and BSA AMW Arka Gdynia basketball clubs, and the entire event was led by KACPA the coach – known and loved in the basketball community.
Many attractions were prepared for the youngest. Right at the beginning, each child received a special T-shirt in which they could take a souvenir photo with the basketball team players. A joint warm-up with KACPA to the rhythm of Christmas hits put everyone in a cheerful mood. Then, the participants tried their hand at various sports competitions and took part in a photo session, during which they could try on elements of a real shipyard worker’s outfit – a helmet, vest, ear defenders and welding goggles.
The highlight of the event was the appearance of Santa Claus, who rode into the sports hall on a motorbike with the shipyard Snow Maiden. Then there was a short ship-themed quiz with attractive prizes. The winners received backpacks filled with PGZ SW gadgets – it was a great opportunity to show creativity and knowledge.
,,Such a meeting is a great opportunity to instill in children the bug of this beautiful sport, which is basketball. Thanks to the support of PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, Gdynia Health Center and AMW Academic Sports Center, where we are hosting for another year in a row, we can give children a lot of joy during this special, holiday time” – Kamil Sadowski, General Manager BSA AMW Arka Gdynia.
This exceptional event may have started the stories of future engineers building Polish warships or athletes achieving success at the world level.
